Why Choose the Studio over Location Photography?

The studio is often the first place that we would recommend for portrait photography, whether family or maternity sessions. I am sure many of you would agree that Singapore’s hot and humid weather is not exactly ideal for outdoor photography sessions. Imagine having your hair and makeup meticulously done up in the morning and heading over to a gorgeous lalang field for your family photo with your kids, only to realize that your kids are throwing a tantrum because the heat is too much to bear. While trying to calm your kids down, the humidity has started to ruin your hair. Sometimes in situations like these, an air-conditioned place would easily be the better choice.

Our studio at Raw Space is conveniently located in the heart of town and is a charming 2-storey shophouse that gets plenty of daylight throughout the day. Besides the main studio area, there is a pantry/dining area that is lit by a skylight, a living room area, a makeup area and there is also a changing area and bathrooms available so that you can have multiple sets of clothes for your session.

The main studio space is highly customisable. There are plain backdrops available for traditional family portraits or you can opt for the concrete wall for a more modern setup. The studio is definitely more conducive if you are looking at having a 3 generation photo. The old folks and young kids will definitely be more comfortable indoors. It will also be easier to have different combinations of people in the photos at the studio as no one has to be waiting around in the heat.

There are also props available to create a living room set, a bedroom set, or a rustic indoor picnic set for a more lifestyle look. The bedroom set is very popular for maternity photography as you do not need to book a hotel room to recreate the look. You can now have a bedroom worthy of your Instagram feed.

We think the most popular reason why anyone would choose the studio over location photography would definitely be the comfort of being in an air-conditioned room. You need not worry about fending off the notorious sandflies at Coney Island or worry about the wind messing up your hair at East Coast Park. We know how the humidity in Singapore can ruin your perfectly done hairdo. The studio is perfect for family portraits especially if you are not too keen on dealing with the local weather.
